The photo of the day feature returns to The Celtic Star today with a rewind to 2019, when fan protests were directed at the board with a banner reading ‘don’t sleep at the wheel’. The banner also depicted Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond driving a car with Neil Lennon sat in the back.

The image just serves to highlight how long there have been rumblings of discontent among sections of the support when it comes to board issues on topics such as transfer activity, recruitment and ambition. It directly contradicts the suggestion that recent protests are a knee jerk reaction to current poor results or the Kairat Almaty debacle.

This photo was taken ahead of Celtic’s Europa League clash with Swedish club AIK Stockholm. The Hoops had been dumped out of Champions League qualification by CFR Cluj and then narrowly defeated Dunfermline Athletic in the Betfred Cup.

The image was captured at a time when Neil Lennon was in the dugout. 10 in a row was still on the line and fans feared that both the manager and the league title could depart, if not proper backing wasn’t received. We all know how things played out!

The following banners were also raised prior to kick off the previous Saturday, as fans implored the board to spend some of the £25m that had just been brought in from the sale of Kieran Tierney.
