FC Bayern are pressing ahead with their plans for the period after Manuel Neuer – and have apparently also taken a look at 1. FC Köln. As reported in the Bayern insider podcast by BILD, Marvin Schwäbe, a former rival to Jonas Urbig, was on the Munich club’s internal list
In addition to the 30-year-old, Oliver Baumann from TSG Hoffenheim and Daniel Heuer Fernandes from Hamburger SV are also said to have been considered as potential candidates. The club is looking for an experienced goalkeeper who can take on the role behind young talent Jonas Urbig
However, the idea of signing Schwäbe was rejected internally. The reason for this is, of all things, the past with Urbig. The two had a direct rivalry at 1 FC Köln, in which Schwäbe ultimately prevailed and Urbig was relegated to the bench

It is precisely this scenario that Bayern clearly did not want to risk again. Instead of a potential area of tension, Munich are clearly focusing on the development of the 22-year-old, who has already played 26 competitive matches since his transfer in January 2025, scoring nine times in the process
In principle, goalkeeper planning at FC Bayern is still closely linked to the future of Manuel Neuer. A new keeper will only be signed if the 40-year-old ends his career in the summer
With Sven Ulreich’s contract expiring and Alexander Nübel and Daniel Peretz on loan, there are currently several options available. The final decision on the goalkeeping hierarchy is therefore only likely to be made in the coming months
However, one thing is clear: Bayern want to control the transition in goal – and are relying on a mixture of experience and perspective.
