Southampton’s outside hopes of automatic promotion faded as Jack Clarke’s late strike earned Ipswich Town a 2-2 draw at St Mary’s on Tuesday night.
According to Sainstmarching.com, Cyle Larin put Saints 2-1 up in the 80th minute, only for Clarke to level from the edge of the area before striking the post in the final moments. The draw meant Southampton could not carry the chase into Saturday’s trip to Preston North End.
Daniel Peretz was given 7/10 in goal. In defence, James Bree earned 8/10 for an energetic display, Taylor Harwood-Bellis 6/10, Nathan Wood 7/10 for assured use of the ball, and Ryan Manning 8/10 after a deflected free-kick took him to eight goals this season.
In midfield, Shea Charles received 7/10 for a combative outing, though he was urged to offer more in attack. Caspar Jander impressed again with 8/10, while Finn Azaz was marked 6/10, wasteful at times but the player fouled for Manning’s set-piece.
Up front, Tom Fellows scored 6/10 with lively dribbles lacking a final pass. Léo Scienza took 7/10 after threatening with a curling effort. Larin led the line superbly for 9/10, twice going close before a deft finish and was notably missed after going off.
Substitutes: 68’ Sam Edozie 7/10, 80’ Ross Stewart 5/10. Southampton conclude their league campaign at Preston on Saturday.
