Celtic striker Johnny Kenny was allowed to go out on loan in the January transfer window, joining Bolton Wanderers on a loan deal until the end of the season. And the Irishman has clearly made an impact at the League One side as they eye promotion to the Championship…

Bolton are improving and sit in fourth position in what is a notoriously difficult league to get out of, via a promotion. Cardiff after a great start to the season have faltered in recent weeks but still sit in second spot with The Trotters set on hunting them down to claim that second automatic promotion spot, or failing that a play-off spot, And with Johnny Kenny firing on all cylinders the Bolton fans are starting to dream.

Kenny scored twice last weekend and this one against Stockport was a classy finish to say the least, similar to the one Tomas Cvancara missed at Dundee on Sunday afternoon.

Kenny is now full of confidence, perhaps something that was missing from his game at Celtic and we all remember his first half misses in that game at Tannadice when he failed to find the back of the net but should have had a hat-trick. It proved to be a costly situation for Celtic, leading just 1-0 at the interval when they should have been out of sight, before Dundee United came back in the second half to win the match.

It was the beginning of the end for hapless boss Wilfried Nancy because that was the night the Celtic support turned on him.

“All the time, I am just thinking about improving,” the 22-year-old striker told The Bolton News after scoring that lovely finish against Stockport County.

“I want to give this club everything I have. I want every performance to get better, to help the squad, and playing for Celtic you have to relish those big days. They are all big days up there. It’s win or bust.

“The last few games for Bolton are all against sides that are around that top seven or eight. Now’s the time to step up and show why I’ve been brought to the club along with the other lads,” the Celtic striker added.

Best of luck to Johnny Kenny for the remainder of the season. Bet he’s keeping a close eye on events up the road too! He’ll be due a medal if Celtic win the league.
