Plymouth Argyle are reaping the rewards of their transfer decision

Plymouth Argyle have bounced back from a tough start to the season to enjoy some strong form in recent weeks.

The Pilgrims lost their first four League One games of the season, which piled a massive amount of pressure on the shoulders of new boss Tom Cleverley.

Argyle waved goodbye to operators such as Mustapha Bundu, Ryan Hardie and Maksym Talovierov following their relegation from the Championship, whilst welcoming new faces like Lorent Tolaj, Ayman Benarous and Bradley Ibrahim to their ranks.

These new players struggled to click at Home Park during the opening stages of the campaign and with such a horrid run of form, the possibility of a relegation battle began to be murmured.

However, Plymouth Argyle have turned their fortunes around in recent weeks, winning four of their last six league fixtures, a spell which has included impressive victories over Burton Albion and Stockport County.

Naturally, this run of form has been boosted by players within the Pilgrims’ squad performing at a higher level.

Tolaj, Ibrahim and Caleb Watts have all contributed with their output, which will be of much delight to Cleverley.

There is another new addition at Home Park that has particularly impressed in recent times, with his performances directly correlating with Argyle’s upturn in form.

Owen Oseni looks to be a solid buy for Plymouth Argyle

Owen Oseni joined Plymouth Argyle from Scottish side St. Mirren in the summer for £60k and already looks to be a brilliant bit of business.

The 22-year-old has scored five goals in his first nine games for the Pilgrims in all competitions, with an impressive double against Championship side Queens Park Rangers the highlight thus far.

A big concern for Argyle in the transfer window was trying to get goals into the team, with the exit of talisman Ryan Hardie feared to leave a lasting impact on their offensive threat.

Although Hardie’s presence in the current Plymouth Argyle side would’ve been extremely welcome, Cleverley will be satisfied by what his summer recruits have produced.

Oseni was brought in to provide cover, but when given opportunities to start, he has taken them without hesitation.

Fellow new addition Tolaj has also been in fine form, making for healthy competition in the striking department at Home Park.

Tom Cleverley may have to give Owen Oseni a bigger role in the Plymouth Argyle side

Cleverley will be incredibly impressed and perhaps somewhat shocked by how well Oseni has performed during the early stages of this season, given that his record in Scotland wasn’t anything to write home about.

His goals have been extremely welcome at Home Park, helping soften the blow of losing Hardie to Wrexham.

However, Oseni’s strong form may start to create a potential headache for Cleverley.

If the 22-year-old keeps scoring goals when given the chance, he will quite rightly expect to start being selected in the starting 11.

Oseni was deployed as an attacking midfielder in Plymouth Argyle’s 4-0 victory over Burton Albion but will surely want to operate out of his favoured No.9 role in the future.

If Cleverley can’t grant this wish, Oseni may become unsatisfied with his current situation, and the Pilgrims may have to start batting away potential interest in the forward.
