Plymouth have been injury-ridden so far this season, highlighting the need for reinforcements in the January transfer window.

After a bitterly disappointing campaign last season, the Pilgrims have their sights set on an immediate return to the second tier. And with that, fans are in high spirits that their new manager, Tom Cleverley can be the man to guide their team back to the Championship despite a major overhaul this summer, not only in the dugout but on the pitch as well.

Key arrivals such as Lorent Tolaj and Bradley Ibrahim brought a buzz around Home Park, but with a couple of notable outgoings with the likes of Maksym Taloverov and Nikola Katic waving goodbye to their time in Devon, Cleverley has been given the difficult task of settling into life on the South Coast with the Pilgrims' expectations being very high for the season ahead.

With one eye on the present and one on the January transfer window, it is likely that Cleverley will want to bring in reinforcements due to injury concerns. Football League World's Plymouth Argyle fan pundit, Luke, believes that a proven Championship striker would be a great option to take the club to the next level.

FLW's Plymouth fan pundit, Luke, has shared his opinion as to what the club's plan of action should be, come January, with him highlighting the Pilgrims' injury problems being a major concern so far this season.

Luke said: "There's probably not any one player that I'd absolutely love us to sign and desperate for us to sign."

"We've had quite a few injuries up to now, and the club seems to be a little bit injury-prone, so reinforcements in January [are needed]."

"I've just been looking at the free transfer of Emmanuel Dennis, who was at Watford, I think, with Tom Cleverley. He's been training with Watford, apparently. He's 27-years-old, Nigerian, obviously a decent player."

"By all accounts, I've just read that Watford have refused to re-sign him at this time, so whether Cleverley can work his magic and have a little word with him and try and persuade him to maybe come down to Argyle and get him signed on a free transfer, then that could be a great little signing in January."

"But, yeah, no one really in particular that I'm desperate for them [Plymouth] to sign."

Plymouth's new star-man Tolaj has been nothing short of a revelation for the Pilgrims this season. With the loss of Ryan Hardie to Championship side Wrexham, it looked as though it would be difficult to see where their goals would come from.

However, the arrival of Tolaj quickly erased all questions as the Swiss forward has scored four goals and provided an assist in his opening seven matches for his new club.

If Plymouth were to sign Dennis in January on a free transfer, this would be a huge positive for multiple reasons. The first being the low cost his signature would bring, and the second being his proven goalscoring ability that has been seen in the Championship over the course of his career. Therefore, making the step-down to League One, even for the short-term, could make him a menace in the third tier.

Dennis' most successful season came in the 2021/22 season when playing for the Hornets. The Nigerian scored 10 goals and tallied up six assists in 33 league games. His most recent spell came last season with Blackburn but never seemed to get going, only making six appearances for Rovers.

Despite his recent form somewhat being left to be desired, a transfer in the way of Plymouth to continue his journey in English football could be a quality move, not only on a personal note, as his widespread experience throughout his career could prove to be a real asset for Cleverley and the Pilgrims' search for promotion.
