Porto have already addressed key needs this month, bringing in Thiago Silva to bolster central defence and Oskar Pietuszewski for the flanks. The club remain open to further moves, particularly a centre-forward, with Farioli saying there is a financial balance to respect.

Pietuszewski’s transfer, at 17, is the biggest sale in Jagiellonia Bialystok’s history and is close to a Polish league record. The deal totals 10 million euros including add-ons, with a fixed 8 million and a further 2 million in bonuses, according to O Jogo.

Those bonuses hinge on personal and team targets, including a first senior Poland cap, plus goals and trophies with Porto. Because he is a minor, he has signed for three years to 5 January 2029, with an extension planned when regulations allow, possibly to 2031.

His release clause is 60 million euros. Jagiellonia will receive 10 per cent of any future capital gain and handle the solidarity mechanism, while Porto have covered 400,000 euros in intermediary costs.

On arrival, Pietuszewski spoke of joining a big club with history and passionate supporters, and said compatriots Jan Bednarek and Jakub Kiwior influenced his decision, with Bednarek welcoming him on club channels. He described himself as fearless on the ball and keen to excite supporters. He will wear number 77, a shirt previously used by Vitinha, Tecatito Corona and Benni McCarthy, and says his focus is minutes and winning trophies.

An Algarve training camp, with several academy players under assessment, is expected to sharpen plans in the coming days.
