Portsmouth should rival Rangers for the signing of Abu Kamara, who could leave Hull City for a cut-price deal.
Hull City winger Abu Kamara could be available for a cut-price fee this summer, amid financial instability at the East Yorkshire-based club, which should alert former side Portsmouth.
After an excellent loan campaign in 2023/24 with Pompey, which saw John Mousinho's side win League One, the Norwich City youngster was a hot topic of interest for many Championship sides last summer.
At the time, Southampton boss Russell Martin was one of the parties interested, as well as his former loan club, but it was Hull who landed his signature on a permanent deal.
Now, the Tigers have been placed under a transfer embargo thanks to financial issues, and could be forced to sell key players for less than their valuation. This has seen Martin, now in charge of Scottish giants Rangers rekindle his interest in Kamara, ahead of a potential swoop.
However, Portsmouth could look to take advantage of the situation unfolding at the MKM Stadium, by bringing the winger back to Fratton Park on the cheap, after they missed out on him last summer.
The summer transfer window has been nothing short of a disaster for Hull, who have been banned from making any permanent signings until January 2027, after they were placed under a transfer embargo.
The Tigers were on the verge of agreeing a deal to sign Aston Villa hotshot Louie Barry, and also held an interest in Nottingham Forest's Lewis O'Brien, but these moves have been put on ice following the embargo.
Hull were placed under a transfer ban as they failed to pay a £1m loan fee to Aston Villa last season for the aforementioned Barry, delayed payments to Manchester City for Finley Burns, and a supplier.
With sales needed to help settle any outstanding payments, Kamara has been linked with a cut-price move away from the club to Rangers, as Hull look to secure a quick fee for the attacker.
It's always a shame to see a club struck with a transfer ban, thanks to the irresponsible behaviour of the ownership group, but rivals will see it as an opportunity to snag a bargain from the club in question.
Pompey should certainly consider following that route, as they could get back a key player from the 2023/24 promotion-winning season, for a fraction of the price he would've cost them less than 12 months ago.
The 21-year-old netted eight goals and chipped in with 10 assists for the Blues two years ago, and the long-awaited reunion at Fratton Park could be key, as Kamara would bring another important outlet in the wide areas for Mousinho's men.
Kamara's time at Hull to date hasn't been quite so fruitful, with the attacker recording just five goals and three assists in his debut campaign. It's not a terrible return, however, and Kamara did pick up somewhat as the season went on.
It's said that Kamara, despite a mixed start to life in East Yorkshire, is happy to stay with the club - but Portsmouth will always hold a place in his heart after becoming a Fratton Park hero and Mousinho should be looking to pull on his heartstrings.
Whilst Rangers also hold an interest in the former Norwich man, and could indeed represent a more appealing destination due to the size of the club and the lure of European football, Pompey should certainly rival the Scottish side for his signing, as the wide-man is still a very popular figure at Fratton Park, and has extremely high potential.
