Portugal host Poland at the Estádio do Dragão this evening aiming to book their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Nations League.

Unbeaten and top of the group, a win for Roberto Martinez’s side will assure their place in the knockout stages.

Poland arrive in Portugal still in contention to qualify, though must avoid defeat to retain that chance. The visitors will be without the services of Robert Lewandowski, with the Barcelona forward out of November’s games with a back problem.

Roberto Martinez’s side will have an unfamiliar feel defensively this evening, amid a lack of experience at centre-back. The retirement of Pepe, alongside absences of Ruben Dias and Goncalo Inacio, has left Portugal short in central defence.

Antonio Silva, still just 21, is set to be partnered by either Benfica teammate Tomás Araújo or Porto defender Tiago Djaló, each of whom are vying for a senior debut against Poland.

Ex-Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is also targeting a first appearance after a stunning start to the season at Lazio. The left-back has eight assists in Serie A, though is unlikely to dislodge first-choice Nuno Mendes this evening.

Joao Palhinha’s withdrawal means Joao Neves should start in defensive midfield, offering support to Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva. Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the line, having scored three goals in four Nations League games.
