A proposed swap deal involving Manchester United winger Antony and Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz has been halted following the sacking of Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli.
Giuntoli was sacked at Juventus last month as the Italian side undergo a revamp of their off-the-pitch figures this summer. The decision has brought a halt to a potential swap deal, proposed by the Italian side.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Giuntoli was keen to sign Antony from Manchester United in a transfer that would have seen Douglas Luiz head to Old Trafford in exchange.
Luiz endured a disappointing debut campaign at Juventus, having thrived in the Premier League with Aston Villa before his move to Turin. He was a key part of Villa’s qualification for the Champions League in 2023/24, scoring nine league goals.
“The discussion for Antony and Douglas Luiz, at the moment, is not even advancing anymore,” Romano said.
Juventus have since appointed ex-Liverpool and Tottenham chief Damien Comolli as the club’s new general manager. It remains to be seen whether the deal is revisited under the new chief, as Juventus look to bounce back from a fourth-placed finish in Serie A.
Antony is a target for several clubs across Europe, after impressing on loan at Real Betis last season.
The Brazil international scored nine times and provided five assists for the Spanish side in 26 appearances. United are willing to sell the 25-year-old and value Antony at around £35m. Betis are keen to keep Antony on a permanent basis.
