Same referee guilty of twice not sending off Man City players this season

Manchester City have avoided at least two red cards in the Premier League this season, experts have ruled.

City this week moved to the top of the Premier League having hit stride during the run-in as they look to topple Arsenal for a third time.

But April has proven tough for Mikel Arteta & Co., who missed the chance to move 12 points clear at the top and now find themselves level on points with their fierce title rivals.

Confirmation that City have benefited from incorrect refereeing decisions will likely not go down well in one side of north London.

Rodri avoided a second yellow card against Spurs

The Premier League's key match incidents (KMI) panel have ruled that twice this season a City player should have been shown a second yellow card when already booked.

Looking at games only officiated by Rob Jones, the KMI panel ruled that the referee five times opted against showing a second yellow card when it was warranted.

The most recent example was Brian Brobbey escaping a red card against Tottenham, but two further incidents involved City, with Ruben Dias deemed to have been worthy of a red card against Nottingham Forest and Rodri escaping his marching orders against Tottenham.

City beat Forest at the City Ground thanks to Rayan Cherki's 83rd-minute winner, but dropped points at Spurs with a draw after going two goals up in the first half.

Jones has been deemed guilty of five instances where a second yellow card was warranted and not given this season, of a total of 12.

The other seven instances have not been confirmed, or which referee was officiating the match.
