The League Phase of the UEFA Women’s Champions League came to an end with the Juventus Women’s First Team losing 1-0 at home against Manchester United.
The narrow contest at the Allianz Stadium went the way of the English side, but the Bianconere still end the League Phase in the play-off places.
Coach Massimiliano Canzi along with players Amalie Vangsgaard and Lia Walti spoke after the match.
"We played a good game, a balanced match that could have ended in a draw, but we weren't good enough at finding the back of the net. We have to accept the result, even if we deserved a little more, but that's football. We weren't able to capitalise on the amount of chances we made. At times, there were a lot of players in the box and it was difficult to find space. We had a lot of possession but failed to create any dangerous chances, perhaps we needed an individual moment of brilliance, but it didn't come. At the start of the season, reaching the play-offs was one of our objectives, so we can only be satisfied with what we've achieved. We mustn't forget what we've done so far and that we can try to do well again. We've given it our all against everyone, if someone had offered me these results in Europe at the start of the year, I would have taken them."
“We conceded one goal too many, while we couldn't find a way to score. We knew that Manchester United would be a tough team to face, and unfortunately things didn't go our way. We lost the ball too easily at certain points in the match, but we still managed to create chances to score, without taking them like we should have.”
"We're disappointed because it was a balanced game. We improved in the second half and created chances, but we weren't able to convert them as we'd hoped. It was a hard-fought match. In the end, the small details made the difference because we weren't able to capitalise on what we'd built up. We knew that winning tonight would keep our hopes alive of finishing fourth and qualifying directly for the quarter-finals, but we're still proud of what we've done and of reaching the play-offs, proving that we can play well against strong teams like Bayern Munich, OL Lyonnes and Manchester United. They are top teams and our goal is to hold our own against clubs like that. We now have two more big games ahead of us in the play-offs."
