Gianluca Prestianni faced abuse from Real Madrid supporters outside Benfica’s team hotel in Madrid, only hours before the clubs meet.

According to Glorioso 1904, a group forced through a security cordon as the Argentine winger walked to the team bus and directed aggressive taunts at him, with many accusing him of being racist.

Prestianni did not respond and boarded in silence while Benfica security staff moved to protect him.

The player is under a provisional UEFA suspension following an accusation of racism linked to the first leg.

Benfica’s trip to the Spanish capital is under intense scrutiny after the controversy that surrounded the opening match at the Luz.

The second leg of the play-off for a place in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 is set against a tense backdrop in Madrid, with expectation of intensity on and off the pitch.
