Roy Hodgson will be hoping his Bristol City side can capitiaise on Sheffield United’s recent poor form at Ashton Gate tomorrow afternoon, and continue the 78-year-old’s perfect start to his interim role.

The Blades come into tomorrow’s game without a win in their last five outings, only picking up three points in that time. Meanwhile, despite Bristol City’s recent run of poor results, they did manage a 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic on Friday afternoon, thanks to goals from Scott Twine and Noah Eile.

Gerhard Struber was relieved of his duties as head coach of The Robins little over a week ago, and has since been replaced by Roy Hodgson, who will remain in charge until the end of the season. Meanwhile, Sheffield United reverted to having Chris Wilder in the dugout in September, following a terrible start to the season under Ruben Selles, who replaced Wilder less than three months earlier.

That poor start to the season was kick-started by a 4-1 defeat to Struber’s City on the opening day of the season, a result that exercised plenty of demons for Robins fans and players alike following last season’s play-off meetings between the two. Tomorrow’s match will be the 67th time Bristol City have taken on Sheffield United, however, they’ve lost more than half, 36, of those and only picked up 17 wins since the first clash back in 1904. Bristol City have also failed to beat United at Ashton Gate since September 2018.

Both sides find themselves with little left to play for, but pride, with The Robins sat in 13th place on 54 points, whilst The Blades occupy 17th on 51 points. Sheffield United played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with Swansea on Good Friday, which saw them surrender a 3-1 lead at Bramall Lane.

Gustavo Hamer found the net once again in that game, as he continues to prove his importance to Wilder’s side this season. The Dutchman now has 14 goal contributions in 31 league appearances this term. Someone with a more impressive record than that is Twine, who bagged his 11th league goal of the campaign on Friday, as well as earning himself a Player of the Match award for a truly spectacular display in the capital.

Tomorrow’s game is scheduled to kick-off at 3pm (UK time) at Ashton Gate.
