Liverpool will look to extend their unbeaten run to 13 matches when they host Scott Parker’s Burnely at Anfield on Saturday.

The Reds dismantled League One Barnsley 4-1 last week, while Burnley have been on a somewhat revival over the festive period despite going without a win since October.

After their goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium last time out, Arne Slot’s men can consider themselves unlucky to have not taken all three points as both Connor Bradley and Dominik Szoboszlai hit the woodwork.

They will be hoping to not fumble the task of taking on a newly promoted side at home again, having failed to put Sunderland and Leeds to the sword.

Doubts in regard to manager Arne Slot still loom over Anfield, where they’ve failed to pick up many wins, as five draws in that time puts his side eight points behiind Villa in third and open to several clubs lining up to seize their Champions League spot.

The last few difficult draws have come whilst Liverpool have been battling with a makeshift attack and they will be bolstered by the return of summer signing Hugo Ekitike who came on to score in the FA Cup victory over Barnsley.

Burnley’s rigid defensive structure could provide a test for players such as Wirtz and Ekitike to unlock.

Liverpool still have a slew of absentees to cope with heading into this weekend, with Connor Bradley suffering a serious knee injury last week, as has fellow defender Giovanni Leoni.

Record signing Alexander Isak is still missing after suffering a serious injury in the sides victory over Spurs, and Mo Salah will instead face Nigeria in the African Cup of Nations third-place playoff.

The visitors have picked up three draws in their last five, including impressive draws against Manchester United and Everton – yet they remain eight points adrift of 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, with some tricky fixtures coming up.

Burnley boss Parker has seen his pressure lifted slightly after these string of strong results, the former England international hasn’t had a stellar managerial career in the Premier League so far with two relegations on his CV thus far.

A strong result against Millwall in the FA Cup will heap confidence on Burnley’s front line, with scoring goals having been a tricky task for the Clarets – only Wolves and Nottingham Forest have scored fewer than Parker’s Clarets.

Midfielder and captain Josh Cullen and forward Zeki Amdouni are sidelined for at least a few months, also with knee injuries, joining Connor Roberts, Joe Worrall, Zian Flemming, and Jordan Beyer.
