Manchester City’s final seasons with Pep Guardiola as their manager will make up a four-part documentary series on Prime Video this summer, it has been revealed.
Fans will no doubt be eager to see an unfiltered side of a period that saw the club weather a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, before roaring back to clinch both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup in Pep Guardiola’s emotional swansong.
Beyond the tactical genius on the pitch, the series is expected to provide a raw look at the seismic changes within the dressing room from the departure of the legendary Kevin De Bruyne in 2025, to the heart-wrenching final farewells of John Stones and Bernardo Silva.
The documentary captures the end of an era in a unique way for supporters, while the acquisition by Amazon represents a big-money bet on the enduring legacy of the most successful manager in modern English football history.
Now, as announced by Manchester City, a new four-part behind-the-scenes docuseries will be released on Prime Video in the UK this summer, taking viewers through the last two seasons of Pep Guardiola as manager.
Footage has been captured by the club’s in-house production company City Studios, while the series itself is directed by Academy and BAFTA award-winning filmmaker Kevin Macdonald, alongside City Studios’ John De Caux, and produced by Plan B/KM Films.
Media Director at City Football Group, Gavin Johnson said as part of the announcement, “We’re incredibly proud to be releasing this documentary series today that offers a new insight to Manchester City and surpasses the scale of other documentaries we’ve done before.
“It wouldn’t be achievable without the hard work, trust and collaboration that our City Studios’ embedded crew have built over the last few years with the players, manager, football staff and club executives.
“It has been fantastic to work with Kevin MacDonald and Plan B/KM Films on this series and it is great endorsement for the level of our productions that we are now able to gain interest and recognition from those at the very top of the industry.
“We hope Manchester City fans and sports documentary enthusiasts enjoy the series.”
Further details from MailSport’s Jack Gaughan reveal that Manchester City have sold to footage to Amazon for more than £10 million, eclipsing the seven-figure sum Netflix paid for the series documenting the 2023 Treble season.
A title for the latest series has yet to be confirmed, however.
The timing of the release – slated for August 19th – is aligned with the competitive start of Enzo Maresca’s era as Manchester City manager, with the Premier League season due to commence on the weekend of August 22nd.
The documentary will provide fans with the closure needed after a decade of unprecedented dominance, whilst also serving as a vital commercial asset, bolstering the ‘City Studios’ brand as a world-leader in sports media production.
