Reports in Italy claim that Ivan Provedel is having his medical with Inter on Wednesday afternoon ahead of the formal completion of his €3m transfer from Lazio.

Inter have been looking to bring in a new goalkeeper following the departure of veteran Yann Sommer, who left the club on a free transfer upon the expiry of his contract on June 30.

There had originally been reports linking the Nerazzurri with a move for Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario, but with suggestions that he would cost at least €20m, the reigning Serie A and Coppa Italia champions have decided to move in a different direction instead.

Inter are widely expected to promote their former understudy Josep Martinez to the no.1 role and are bringing in former Serie A goalkeeper of the year Provedel, 32, to support him.

Inter have already agreed a €3m deal to sign Provedel from Lazio: The stopper is into the final year of his deal at the Stadio Olimpico. He is expected to put pen to paper on a three year contract once his medical is complete.

According to reports from various outlets on Wednesday afternoon, Provedel is having his medical at the Humanitas clinic in Rozzano, which is the final step before the goalkeeper puts pen to paper on his Nerazzurri contract.

He is set to become Cristian Chivu’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of Aleksandar Stankovic, who was signed from Club Brugge thanks to the buy-back option in his contract.
