FC Barcelona seemed to have proper squad depth in almost every position going into the 2025/26 season, but just a few months in, that myth has already been busted.

Multiple injuries across the board have exposed weaknesses in the current Barcelona squad and highlighted the need for quality reinforcements in key positions such as right back.

Barcelona’s incumbent, Jules Kounde, has been enduring a slump in form, but Flick has continued to use him due to a lack of alternatives. Recently, we covered a story revealing that the German manager wanted reinforcement and that the club had identified Daniel Munoz of Crystal Palace.

According to Fichajes, Barcelona are not alone in the race to sign the 29-year-old Colombian defender, with PSG and Chelsea also keen to add him to their squads. This could result in a bidding war for the player.

This puts the Catalan club at a disadvantage, as they do not have the financial might to compete with the spending power of PSG and Chelsea. Thus, the club may have to start looking for potential alternatives.

If Barcelona are looking to sign a right back, they should target a complementary profile to Kounde, which is exactly what Munoz offers. However, if he is not a feasible signing, the club may have to move on to other options.

In hindsight, loaning Hector Fort to Elche seems short-sighted. Let us wait and see how Barcelona address this deficiency in January.
