PSG have made it clear in recent transfer windows that they’re prioritizing top French talent, adding players such as Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Lucas Chevalier.
That strategy appears to be continuing as the club looks to strengthen its defense. While Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has been mentioned as a possible target, PSG could turn their attention to another high-profile French center back.
Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano, who remains under contract until the 2025–26 season, has reportedly caught PSG’s attention. According to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, the club are keeping close tabs on Upamecano’s situation.
Romano noted that a move could happen in the summer of 2026 if the defender opts not to extend his deal with Bayern Munich, which would open the door for a free transfer.
Still, if Upamecano becomes available earlier, PSG would likely view him as a major defensive acquisition, although competition from other top European clubs could make any pursuit challenging.

Upamecano will be free to start negotiating a pre-contract with other clubs once 2026 begins. There’s also a chance that the French defender will finalize his next move before the FIFA World Cup kicks off next summer.
“I hope so,” Upamecano told L’Equipe (h/t Paris Fans) when talking about whether he intends to have his future settled by the World Cup. “My agent is handling it. We’ll make the right decision. I’m getting good advice. I’m focused on my season, on my club and national team goals. My mind isn’t on that right now.”
A move could be in the cards soon as Foot Mercato reports that Real Madrid and Upamecano have reached a verbal agreement, putting the Spanish club in the lead to secure the defender.
Moreover, the defender also discussed his current situation with Bayern Munich and whether he sees himself playing in France for PSG.
“I’ve always said I feel good at Bayern,” Upamecano added. “I have a great coach. I get along well with my teammates… I’m under contract with Bayern. I have goals. I’m very grateful if there are clubs interested in me.”
