PSG are stepping up their efforts to strengthen this summer with a move for River Plate midfielder Franco Mastantuono.
Luis Enrique’s side were crowned European champions for the first time on Saturday, after thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the biggest-ever Champions League final win.
The French side are wasting no time in strengthening their squad and will push ahead with plans to sign Mastantuono this week.
The 17-year-old is regarded as one of world football’s best young talents. He has already made 61 senior appearances for River Plate, scoring 10 goals.
Mastantuono broke the record of Javier Saviola as River’s youngest-ever goalscorer and has attracted significant interest from Europe’s elite.
He hit the headlines after scoring a stunning free-kick in the Superclasico against Boca Juniors and has seven goals and four assists in 20 appearances this season.
Mastantuono has also been called up by head coach Lionel Scaloni as part of the 28-man Argentina national team squad set to face Chile and Colombia in the upcoming World Cup 2026 qualifiers. He could become just the fourth u-18 player to debut for the senior team.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that PSG are pushing to sign the teenage midfielder, having anticipated strong competition from rival clubs. Real Madrid and both Manchester clubs have been linked.
The Ligue 1 outfit have focused on emerging talent as part of a new recruitment model. This season, the likes of Desire Doue (19), Bradley Barcola (22) and Joao Neves (20) were key to their Champions League success.
Mastantuono’s contract with the Argentinian side has a €41m release clause. He will be eligible to move to Europe when he turns 18 in August.
