PSG have been drawn to face Chelsea in the Champions League last 16, with the first leg in Paris on 10 or 11 March and the return in London on 17 or 18 March. The draw was made in Nyon on Friday.
“People often remind us of what we did this summer, but there will be two legs, that changes things. I do not want to talk about revenge, but I imagine they are thinking about it,” said Chelsea operations director David Barnard to Canal+.
Chelsea are fifth in the Premier League after a rocky start that saw Enzo Maresca sacked and Liam Rosenior arrive from Strasbourg. “He is finding his feet, he knows the club’s strategy, he knows what we want and he is doing very well,” Barnard added.
After a brief upturn, the Londoners have stalled again. Even so, PSG face a demanding assignment, with fitness concerns after a long 2024-25, underlined by a laboured play-off over Monaco, 3-2 and 2-2.
The second leg is at Stamford Bridge. The European champions hope for a swift return for Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembélé, who missed Wednesday’s Monaco tie with a calf problem.
If they advance, PSG would meet Liverpool or Galatasaray in the quarter-finals, scheduled for seven or eight April and 14 or 15 April.
The draw also paired Real Madrid with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, with a potential Kylian Mbappé v Erling Haaland duel. Mbappé’s involvement is uncertain, and he could be sidelined for several weeks.
