Qatar is in talks to host the first ever Women's Club World Cup in what is likely to be a highly-contentious decision should FIFA decide to host the competition there.
The Women's Club World Cup is set to take place in January 2028, already making any host with a warmer winter climate a strong contender.
However, Qatar's interest is contrary to the country having a women's team that rarely plays games and strict anti-LGTBQ laws in the country – especially when a large number of women's players are open about their sexuality.
Indeed, during the 2022 World Cup a Brazilian journalist faced harassment for having a flag that looked similar to a pride flag with local police actually confiscating and stamping on a flag of the state of Pernambuco.
The Guardian also reports that Saudi Arabia is another potential host but that it may conflict with the hosting of the Spanish Super Cup at that time.
