The Jamaican forward has been an inspired signing for the Hoops under Julien Stephan

Queens Park Rangers have endured a mixed first season under Julien Stephan's management, as they prepare for another year in the Championship without really troubling the play-off race or being in danger of getting sucked into the relegation battle.

It has been an all-too-familiar tale for those of a Hoops persuasion, with the club yet to show any real signs of breaking into contention for a return to the Premier League, having resided in the second tier ever since their most recent top-flight relegation 11 years ago.

There was a brief period in the autumn where it seemed as though such circumstances could have changed under the management of the former Stade Rennais and RC Strasbourg boss, but now Rangers are sat 13th in the Championship table with two matches remaining against Derby County and Ipswich Town, and unlike their opponents, have very little but pride to play for ahead of what will be an intriguing off-season at Loftus Road.

Ahead of his first campaign as a manager in the English game, Stephan made an array of additions in a bid to reshape the West London club's squad heading into the season, although they have yielded mixed fortunes thus far when it comes to their individual performances and contributions.

Having relied on the creative spark of Ilias Chair for many years, it was no surprise that Stephan attempted to boost the Hoops' attacking options, and Richard Kone and Rumarn Burrell have certainly aided such a cause after being plucked from League One outfits Wycombe Wanderers and Burton Albion respectively.

In what has also been their first-ever campaigns at Championship level, Burrell has certainly been a handful for opposition defenders after his switch, reportedly in excess of £1m, from the East Staffordshire side, making the fee look a strong bargain that could now bring a huge profit, according to reports.

After an initial slow start for himself in front of goal and his new employers as a team, Burrell has rarely looked back when on the pitch this season for the Hoops ever since netting his maiden strike in a 3-1 win over Wrexham in North Wales on September 13th.

Indeed, the 25-year-old Birmingham-born forward hit a remarkable run of form between mid-October and early December in particular, during which he netted eight times within a 11-game period, including a brace in another 3-1 success over West Bromwich Albion.

His last goal, though, came against Sheffield Wednesday on January 4th, as he was later withdrawn with a hamstring injury after 21 minutes, eventually making his long-awaited return to action in the goalless draw with Bristol City earlier this month.

However, it now remains to be seen if QPR's encounters with the Rams and Tractor Boys are potentially Burrell's last in blue and white hoops after just one season at the club, with Football Insider claiming that there is a potential three-way transfer battle for his signature.

It has been reported that newly-relegated Wolverhampton Wanderers see the striker as a potential part of their rebuild under Rob Edwards, whilst European-chasing AFC Bournemouth and Sunderland are also said to be keeping tabs.

Rangers did not disclose Burrell's contract length at the time of his arrival in W12, but the aforementioned publication claim he is under contract for another four years.

Given the aforementioned claim on Burrell's contract length, the London club would certainly hold plenty of power when it comes to negotiating any deal. However, it remains to be seen if any interest does become concrete in the coming weeks.

It has been well-documented that Bournemouth are replacing Andoni Iraola with Marco Rose at the end of the season as head coach, whilst shock claims have emerged that Regis Le Bris could lose his job at Sunderland if they missed out on a European spot.

As such, this could leave Wolves in the hotseat when it comes to striking a deal, although Rangers would hope that they set their sights elsewhere, having seen links re-emerge with Scotland international, Che Adams, whilst also having experienced Championship goal-getter, Adam Armstrong, already on their books.
