Akos Buzsaky proved to be very Successful transfer for QPR after signing from Plymouth Argyle for £500k
Queens Park Rangers hit jackpot on £500k transfer of skillful midfielder Akos Buzsaky from Plymouth Argyle
After kicking off his career in his native country, Hungary, before making a name for himself in Portugal with Porto, and subsequently signing for Plymouth Argyle then QPR, midfielder Buzsaky is certainly a name that the EFL won't forget.
Buzsaky made over 100 appearances for Argyle between 2004-2007 before making the trip up to London, where he found a new home in Loftus Road.
With a two-month loan deal in place before signing for the R's permanently in 2007 for £500k, Buzsaky made an instant impact with his new club, coming up with 16 goal contributions in 27 appearances in his first season, including 10 goals.
Buzsaky went on to be a key figure in QPR's line-up for the next four years as the Hungarian went on to feature 125 times for Rangers and will be remembered for his efforts in the club, earning promotion to the Premier League in the 2010/11 season.
After spending the majority of his career in the Championship, the Hungarian was keen on reaching the Premier League. He was quoted as saying: "I came to QPR because there is a good chance of going up. The club has a future and more chance of reaching the Premier League than Plymouth."
Buzsaky went on to say on signing for QPR: "I am 25 years old and in two or three years I want to go up. I think we will, because I always try to do my best and so do the team, which is already better than when I arrived."
In three seasons, he and his teammates did just that.
The Hungarian midfielder took his performance levels to that next level when at Loftus Road, adopting a more forward-thinking role on the pitch, which translated to Buzsaky seeing major improvements to his attacking returns.
Buzsaky quickly became a key figure for the R's, helping them win promotion to the Premier League under Neil Warnock and then playing a bit-part as the club avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship.
However, after one season in the top flight, that is where Buszaky's QPR career came to an end due to his contract expiry.
With brief spells at the likes of Portsmouth and Barnsley after, the Hungarian could never quite rediscover his flourishing form that Rangers fans were so used to seeing throughout his tenure. Injury troubles and lack of game time led Buzsaky to hang up his boots in 2015.
Despite only playing a bit-part across the promotion campaign under Warnock and Premier League survival effort, he's left the legacy of being a cult hero at Loftus Road, with fans certainly remembering the name for a time to come for his efforts to get QPR into that position where they could challenge at the top of the EFL.
