Racing Santander admit Agirrezabala pursuit was financially unviable | OneFootball

Racing Santander explored a move for Athletic goalkeeper Julen Agirrezabala as they prepare for their top-flight return. According to El Correo, sporting director Chema Aragón said the numbers made it impossible.

Aragón considered Agirrezabala the club’s first-choice target, but the terms proposed by Athletic made the operation financially unviable, and Racing have turned to other options.

Agirrezabala spent last season on loan at Valencia at the coach’s request, but injury problems hampered him and he lost the starting role. The 10 million purchase clause was not taken up.

He rejoined Athletic in July. He is not in Edin Terzic’s plans, with Álex Padilla and Mikel Santos preferred for pre-season minutes.

Racing will now focus on alternative signings as the new campaign begins in a few days.
