À Punt reports the trial for the alleged sexual assault involving RAFA MIR is scheduled for 28 May, with the Elche forward due before a judge. A decision on whether proceedings will be open or closed is still being discussed.
The incident dates to September 2024, hours after Valencia, then managed by Rubén Baraja, drew 1-1 with Villarreal at Mestalla. Mir came off the bench, later went to a Valencia nightclub where he met two women aged 21 and 25. Around 7am they went to his home, where one of the women now alleges she was sexually assaulted.
Following the complaint, he was detained by the Guardia Civil and spent almost two days in a cell. Released under investigation, he continued to feature for Valencia under Baraja, then Carlos Corberán.
This season he has been playing for Elche, while Sevilla retain his rights. He will return to Valencia after the campaign to attend the hearing.
After an investigation, the prosecution recently sought 10 and a half years in prison for aggravated sexual assault with penetration and for another offence of injuries, plus a 13-year 500-metre restraining order, 7 years of supervised release, 8 years of special disqualification relating to activities with minors, and €64,000 in damages. Mir has always denied the allegations.
In a fresh filing, Mir’s lawyer Jaime Campaner submitted two previously unseen videos which his legal team say could undermine the accusations, and is seeking his acquittal.
