Rafael Leao: Man United receive crucial update on AC Milan superstar’s future | OneFootball

Manchester United allowed Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho to leave in the summer, and strengthened the left-forward position by signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Rashford moved to Barcelona on a season-long loan and is expected to make his stay permanent in LaLiga. Garnacho, meanwhile, joined Chelsea on a permanent deal.

Cunha has made a decent start to life at the Theatre of Dreams, netting his first goal for the club in the 4-2 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.

However, United are willing to consider further additions in that position in 2026. Recent reports suggest that they have set their sights on AC Milan’s Rafael Leao.

United wanted Leao this summer

Leao was on fire for the Rossoneri last season, registering 12 goals and 13 assists in 50 appearances across competitions. His performances caught the attention of the Old Trafford hierarchy, with the Red Devils reportedly showing interest in the 26 year old during the summer transfer.

However, the Portuguese ultimately remained at the San Siro. The Red Devils, meanwhile, ended the transfer window by adding Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to Ruben Amorim’s attack.

While the Premier League giants have been on the rise of late, they haven’t forgotten about Leao. The Portuguese forward has scored four goals in six appearances this season, and his pace and trickery could add another dimension to United’s attack.

The Red Devils have now been handed a boost in their efforts to secure the AC Milan star.

Ready to test himself in Premier League

According to TEAMtalk, Leao is excited by the prospect of moving to England, and wants to test himself in one of the world’s top leagues.

One source told the news outlet: “Rafa loves Milan, but the Premier League is the pinnacle for many. If the right project comes, he’s ready to listen.”

The report, however, adds that AC Milan are reluctant to let the Portuguese leave, and will demand an exorbitant fee for their prized asset. Leao reportedly has a £132.1 million release clause in his contract.

Meanwhile, United are not the only club interested in the player. Arsenal reportedly see him as their ideal attacking target for 2026, while Chelsea are in the race as well.

Leao’s future remains subject to speculation ahead of January, but AC Milan are expected to keep him unless they receive an offer they cannot refuse. Meanwhile, the Red Devils are likely to focus on revamping their midfield in 2026, and it is unclear whether they will have funds to spare for Leao.
