Well well well. Turns out all that shouting and snarling on social media about never wanting Rangers to sign another over 35 was, once again, just noise from the usual minority. We ran an Ibrox Noise poll asking fans if they wanted Jamie Vardy to come to Rangers and the result was emphatic. A whopping 80 percent voted yes. Only 20 percent said no. That’s not a close call. That’s not divided opinion. That’s a landslide.
So what does this tell us? It tells us the mouthy mob on X and Facebook comments are just that – mouthy. They do not represent the majority of Rangers supporters. Most fans still recognise a good footballer when they see one and do not care whether he’s 25 or 38 as long as he can stick the ball in the net and deliver results. Vardy might be getting on but his CV speaks for itself. England international Premier League champion and still sharp in front of goal. That is what matters to most fans.
And it goes further. There was a lot of daft chat about how Rangers should avoid signing any more ‘pensioners’ after some past flops. But this is Jamie Vardy. A striker who brings big-game experience personality and a mentality that wins. Signing Vardy would not be about a nostalgia tour or shirt sales. It would be a genuine football move and fans clearly get that.
We know Sky Sports has now linked him strongly with Rangers and even Ally McCoist is on board. The reaction has been loud passionate and overwhelmingly positive. A few cynics shouting into the void about age will always be there. But the numbers don’t lie. The vast majority of Rangers fans want this deal to happen.
Even an external report from TalkSport confirms that interest is very real and that Rangers are in the mix. If the new board can pull this one off it would be a serious statement to the rest of Scottish football and even Europe. A free signing of that calibre would be gold dust and fans clearly see it.
In short – Jamie Vardy to Rangers? The fans have spoken. Loud and clear. Let’s make it happen.
