La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Austria coach Ralf Rangnick seeks full authority to reshape the technical area at Milan, including choosing the new coach, but he would only consider a move to San Siro after the World Cup.

Austria coach Rangnick is one of Milan’s primary targets to become the Head of Technical Area after the Rossoneri sacked coach Massimiliano Allegri and all their leading directors, Igli Tare, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada.

Rangnick to Milan latest updates

The Rossoneri will begin anew after missing out on Champions League qualification, and Rangnick is once again being considered by the club, having nearly become their coach in 2019.

According to Gazzetta, the Austria national team coach met with Milan owner Gerry Cardinale and RedBird executives, including Senior Advisor Zlatan Ibrahimovic, in Vienna on Tuesday, outlining his vision for the role and the timing of a possible appointment.

Firstly, Rangnick would only begin his tenure at Milan after the World Cup, where his Austria side will meet Jordan, Argentina and Algeria in Group J.

The 67-year-old reportedly demanded to bring his vision entirely to Milanello, choosing the next coach and his closest collaborators, especially in the scouting department.

Cardinale and Ibrahimovic are making assessments and will make a decision on Rangnick in the coming days as they don’t want to pile further pressure on the Austria coach ahead of the World Cup.

Rangnick replied to a question about Milan during a charity event on Wednesday: ‘Probably, everyone noticed that something out of the ordinary happened at Milan over the weekend,” the 67-year-old said via Gazzetta.

His contract with the Austrian federation expires after the World Cup, and Rangnick insisted that the “only federation or club I’m talking to regarding contract situations remain the Austrian Federation.”
