Raniele rues Brasileirão debut defeat, eyes Supercopa final

On the night of this Wednesday (28), Corinthians hosted Bahia at Vila Belmiro for the opening of the 2026 Brazilian Championship and was defeated 2-1. The goal for the Alvinegro was scored by Breno Bidon, while Jean Lucas and Willian José scored for the Bahia team. With this result, Corinthians left the field with a 2-1 defeat.

In an interview with the press as he left the field, midfielder Raniele assessed the team's performance, lamented the missed opportunities, and highlighted the punishment suffered throughout the match.

“Of course, we didn't want this result, especially being the home team. Even far from our headquarters, with our fans, we always feel at home. It was a game where we had the chance to finish it, to make it 2-0 or 3-0, but we didn't. The Brazilian Championship is like this: we face high-level teams, and if we don't finish the game when we have the chance, we end up punished. That's what happened today. Now the focus is on Sunday. It's time to shower, rest, and switch gears because we fought hard to get here,” he stated.

The midfielder also emphasized the importance of focusing on the decision of the Supercopa do Brasil, which will be played next weekend.

“In final stages, when we have the opportunity to win a title in just one game or better, in a direct contest, that becomes the most important. The focus now is entirely on that. We need to switch gears so that on Sunday, we can have a great performance and come out victorious with the trophy,” he said.

Raniele also commented on the Bahia goal, which deflected off him before going in.

“(The ball) deflected off me. Jean Lucas shot, it hit my shoulder, and ended up lobbing over Hugo (Souza),” he concluded.

After the debut in the Brazilian Championship against Bahia at Vila Belmiro, Corinthians turns its attention to the final of the Supercopa do Brasil. Next Sunday (1), at 4 pm (Brasília time), the Alvinegro will face Flamengo at Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasília.
