Claudio Ranieri is determined to turn things around for Mats Hummels.
The Italian technician was asked during his press conference, whether he will give Hummels a chance, as opposed to Juric’s treatment of the German defender, to which Ranieri replied, “Why shouldn’t I?”
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, during the first three days of training back at Trigoria, Ranieri has been focusing a lot on the defensive line and its stability.
As revealed by Ranieri in his presser, Angelino will not be given such extensive defensive duties anymore.
Moreover, the team will not be relying on a high backline anymore, to avoid of running unnecessary risks.
Ranieri will rely on the low block and little distance between defense and midfield. In Naples Ranieri will probably also start from the three-man defense.
But it will be a different defense in terms of concepts and dynamics, with greater attention to marking, positioning and holding the line.
And the players will also change.
Starting with Mats Hummels, who could be the big novelty at the Maradona in Naples.
Hummels can become the team’s defensive leader under Ranieri, writes the newspaper.
Consequently, Ndicka should return to playing on the center-left.
