Viktor Gyokeres is closing in on a move to Arsenal and the forward is understood to be set to wear an iconic shirt.

Gyokeres has reportedly chosen to wear the number 14 shirt, best associated with Thierry Henry. Henry scored a club-record 228 goals for the Gunners over two spells in North London, winning a joint-record four Premier League Golden Boots.

Arsenal will hope Gyokeres can prove similarly prolific, in the shirt that Henry popularised during his time with the club.

Ahead of the announcement of Gyokeres’s move to Arsenal, we’ve ranked the player to wear the number 14 shirt for the club since Henry’s exit in 2007. All stats are while wearing the number 14 shirt

Ranked: Every Arsenal player to wear 14 since Thierry Henry

3. Eddie Nketiah – 106 games, 25 goals

The Hale End graduate was given the number 14 shirt ahead of the 2021/22 campaign. Despite a prolific record for Arsenal and England at youth level, Nketiah struggled to break in as a first-team regular with the Gunners.

He made just 27 league starts over three seasons wearing the number 14, before departing to sign for Crystal Palace in 2024.

2. Theo Walcott – 326 games, 100 goals

Theo Walcott dealt with inevitable Thierry Henry comparisons from the moment he signed for Arsenal from Southampton. The forward’s game contained similar traits to the Gunners great, most notably the electric speed to get away from defenders.

Walcott never quite reached the initial heights expected upon his emergence, but he was a fine servant for Arsenal. He made almost 400 appearances for the North Londoners in all competitions and netted a century of goals after inheriting the 14 shirt.

1. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 163 games, 92 games

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became Arsenal’s record signing after arriving from Borussia Dortmund in a £56m deal in January 2018. The Gabon international made an instant impact, scoring on his debut against Everton and netting 10 times in his first 13 league appearances.

Aubameyang posted a prolific record during his time at Arsenal, scoring 92 times in 163 games before an unceremonious exit. That return included winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot in 2018/19, becoming one of just two Arsenal players, alongside Robin van Persie, to win the award since Henry.
