Chelsea and Man City have a long history of cooperation. Whether it’s trying to find loopholes in the Premier League’s financial rules or trading players with one another, the two clubs seem to have a good relationship.
At the moment, Enzo Maresca, himself an ex-Man City coach, has plenty of former City players at his disposal in West London. According to The Athletic, Chelsea look set to add one more with Jamie Gittens already agreeing to a seven-year deal.
Here is our definitive ranking of the ex-Man City players in Chelsea’s current squad.
Sancho is technically still a Chelsea player until July 1st but following the decision to sending him back to Man United by paying £5 million to avoid a £25 million obligation to buy, don’t expect to see him playing at the Club World Cup this month.
After an impressive start, providing three assists in his first three games at the club, Sancho’s form dropped off, and he was unable to show the player he once was at Borussia Dortmund on a consistent basis.
He played a key role in Chelsea’s Europa Conference League campaign, however, scoring in the final. So he will remain part of the club’s history for years to come.
Perhaps harsh on Sancho, considering Delap hasn’t played a game for Chelsea yet, we’re putting him in fourth purely based on the idea of him leading the line at Stamford Bridge. There have been plenty of comparisons to Diego Costa, and it’s easy to see why.
A bullish striker who never gives an opposition defender a moment’s rest, his strength and ability to hold up the ball and bring teammates into play make him a handful, to say the least. Twelve goals for relegated Ipswich are proof of that.
For £30 million, it was a no-brainer to bring him to the club. He’s taken the cursed number nine shirt at Chelsea. On the upside, he can’t do much worse than some of the players who have worn it.
The midfielder would be a lot higher on this list if he could stay fit. Since joining from Southampton back in the summer of 2023, he’s made just 19 appearances across all competitions, providing a single assist in the process.
Maresca is easing him back into it, and his performances against Everton and Liverpool as Chelsea chased Champions League qualification are proof of how good he can be. He’s given his manager a serious problem with Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez also competing.
At 27 years old, Tosin is one of the oldest members of this Chelsea squad, and he’s also one of the most reliable. Joining from Fulham as a free agent last summer, the centre-back came through the Man City academy before leaving in pursuit of first-team football.
Purely as a value for money transfer, he’s arguably the best Chelsea have made since Cesar Azpilicueta. His assured performances, particularly in the second half of the season, were crucial in securing a top-four place.
He’s also said to be very well-liked in the dressing room, forming a strong relationship with our number one.
Who else? With 66 goal contributions in his 91 Chelsea games, it’s impossible to look beyond the impact Palmer has had at Stamford Bridge. He’s their main attacking threat, the lad they’ve based everything around, and a bona fide superstar.
Palmer has come into his own at Chelsea like no one would have predicted. Still just 23 years old, he has plenty of time to cement himself as a legend of the club, alongside the likes of Eden Hazard, Frank Lampard, and Gianfranco Zola.
