More than 23,000 Palmeiras supporters roared as Raphael Veiga was sent on late in the 3-1 win over São Paulo, amid uncertainty over his future. It may even have been a farewell appearance.
According to Globo.com, América of Mexico have told his representatives they intend to make an offer, but no formal bid has reached Palmeiras. With nothing on the table, the No 23 was selected and entered on 41 minutes of the second half in the Choque-Rei.
Though no longer as decisive as in past seasons, Veiga still commands affection at Arena Crefisa Barueri, as the ovation showed. Coach Abel Ferreira praised him and said he counts on the midfielder for the campaign, while admitting he does not know what will happen next.
Only Veiga and Gustavo Gómez were at the club before Abel arrived, with Weverton part of that group until his move to Grêmio last week.
An influential voice in the dressing room, he lost ground last year amid fitness issues, rallied late in 2025 and shone in the Conmebol Libertadores semi-final, but did not sustain a run. In 2026 the 30-year-old has played in three of five Paulista rounds, starting twice, and is currently a substitute when everyone is available.
This situation could prompt him to seek a move. As with fellow serial winners Weverton, Marcos Rocha and Mayke, Palmeiras do not plan to release him unless he indicates he wants to leave.
