Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has laid down a key transfer condition before giving the green light to a Napoli loan switch, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.

Napoli return to the fray for Hojlund

It’s looking increasingly likely that Hojlund will leave United before the transfer window closes on September 1.

He is not believed to feature prominently in Ruben Amorim’s plans moving forward, as evidenced by his exclusion from the matchday squad that suffered a 1-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend.

Hojlund was left out amidst raging speculation over his future at Old Trafford. It’s understood that the Dane was told he will struggle for minutes and it a parting of ways would be in his best interests.

AC Milan appeared to be making the strongest advances for Hojlund but it recently emerged that the Rossoneri have shifted their attention to an alternative target – Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.

Earlier this evening, Gianluca Di Marzio revealed that Napoli have revived their interest in Hojlund after Romelu Lukaku sustained an injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for a lengthy period. The reigning Serie A champions are on the hunt for a new striker in an effort to ensure that Antonio Conte still has options up front.

Di Marzio stated that Napoli are confident that United will sanction a loan exit for Hojlund, while also getting the player’s approval.

Now, Romano has given an update, indicating that while Hojlund is keen on a move to the Partenopei, he is seeking assurances of a long-term place in the team.

Hojlund issues Napoli transfer requirement

Romano wrote on X “Napoli have made new contact with Man United today for Rasmus Højlund deal, talks underway.”

“Højlund’s camp also in talks with Napoli as player’s keen on the move while also wants guarantees to stay at the club in future, not a simple loan.”

“Negotiations ongoing.”

This suggests that Hojlund may prefer the deal to include an obligation to buy once the loan ends, though it is uncertain whether that condition will be met.
