Rasmus Hojlund’s brace sends Antonio Conte’s Napoli to Serie A summit | OneFootball

Napoli secured a 2-1 win over Juventus in the Serie A at Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday evening.

Napoli came out flying from the start and should have gone ahead inside five minutes when David Neres picked out Scott McTominay at the far post, but the Scot headed wide.

Moments later, Rasmus Hojlund gave the defending champions the lead, applying the finish to Neres’ cross, ending his eight-game goal drought.

Michele Di Gregorio made a superb save to deny Giovanni Di Lorenzo from giving the hosts a two-goal cushion, tipping the full-back’s flying effort over the bar.

Juventus’ first opening came on the half-hour mark, with Kenan Yildiz teeing up Francisco Conceicao, who could only smash his effort wide.

Hojlund squandered a chance to get on the scoresheet again just before halftime, heading wide from a corner.

The Manchester United loanee also got Napoli’s first chance after the break, forcing Di Gregorio to make a save.

McTominay missed another chance to double the hosts’ lead, smashing a free-kick narrowly wide of goal.

Juventus drew level on the 58th minute, with Yildiz squeezing the ball into the net from an acute angle after a brilliant team move.

Napoli responded positively to Juventus’ equaliser, and Hojlund put them back in front with a header past Di Gregorio, sending the home fans into raptures.

The victory extends Napoli’s unbeaten run against Juventus to four matches. Antonio Conte’s side are now the outright table-toppers, sitting one point ahead of Inter Milan.

Napoli face Benfica in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, while Juventus take on Pafos.
