Wolves are set to bring back Raul Jimenez, with a deal agreed for his return. According to ExpressAndStar.com, staff have travelled to Mexico, a medical is complete and the free agent will sign a two-year contract with an option of a third.
The Mexican forged a special bond at Molineux, becoming a modern club hero through goals, records and wholehearted performances across five seasons.
He arrived on loan in 2018 after the Championship title, heading a debut equaliser against Everton. By March he had matched Steven Fletcher’s Premier League single-season mark with 12, ended with 17 in 44 including four in the FA Cup, and Wolves finished seventh to reach Europe.
He struck the opener in the 2-1 quarter-final win over Manchester United. Three days before the semi-final, Wolves made his move permanent in what was believed to be a club-record £30 million deal to 2023, then at Wembley he scored on 62 minutes, celebrated with a Sin Cara mask, before Watford won 3-2 after extra time.
In 2019/20 he helped drive a Europa League run to the quarter-finals, losing to eventual winners Sevilla, and Wolves finished seventh again despite Covid. A 3-2 comeback against Manchester City on 27 December 2019 headlined his season, and he claimed both the supporters’ and players’ awards.
In November 2020 he suffered a fractured skull in a clash with David Luiz at Arsenal and underwent surgery, returning for 2021/22 with a protective head guard and scoring at Southampton in September. He remains Wolves’ record Premier League scorer with 40 and left in 2023 with 57. An unused substitute against Everton on the final day, he was visibly emotional, and later Julen Lopetegui said, “Maybe I can do better as a coach and put him on the pitch for the last ten minutes.”
He returned with Fulham in May, received a standing ovation and chants of “Si Senor” and “sign him up”. Afterwards he said, “It would be nice, more after today, let’s see.”
