RB Leipzig’s David Raum frustrated at another blown lead: “We have to be harder scumbags.”

RB Leipzig captain David Raum found himself profoundly irritated by the manner in which his team blew a two-goal lead against Borussia Dortmund in Saturday evening’s Bundesliga Top-Spiel. It continues to be a season fraught with frustration for the RB skipper. Three losses to Bayern Munich and only 12 wins through 23 Bundesliga matchdays leave the German Red Bulls out of the domestic cup and behind pace in their goal of re-securing Champions League football.

Raum calls for more RB Leipzig roughhousing

Raum wasn’t the only member of a German company club incensed by his squad’s lack of intensity this weekend. Wolfsburg head coach Daniel Bauer specifically called for his players to deliberately commit more fouls after his relegation-threatened team lost to Augsburg. Bauer cited the dirty hard watch that was Friday night’s 1-1 draw between Hamburger SV and FSV Mainz 05, saying that footballers fighting for high stakes must sometimes fight dirty.

Raum expressed similar sentiments, noting that – with Leipzig’s goal of reaching Europe in jeopardy – the team could not afford to lay off their opponents. Dortmund only nicked a 2-2 draw at the end of the day, but could have taken all three points against their Saxon hosts on Saturday night with all the space BVB attackers were accorded late. Several missed opportunities from Dortmund led to the match ending level.

I’m really disappointed, angry and pissed off that we gave the game away again,” Raum told Sky Germany. “It’s just not good enough, and not the first time. We have to be harder scumbags. Everyone has to question themselves. Because if we play like we did today at the end, our goals are in danger.
