Jérémy Agbonifo, a player for RC Lens, is set to discover a new league. On August 25, 2025, the Lens club officially announced the loan of their 19-year-old midfielder to FC Basel, a historic side in the Swiss Super League, for the 2025-2026 season. This move presents a valuable opportunity for the player to gain experience and secure more playing time.
Arriving at Lens last winter on loan with an obligation to buy, triggered this summer, Jérémy Agbonifo is considered one of the most promising talents of his generation. The dynamic winger, a Swedish youth international of Nigerian heritage, has made his mark with Lens’ reserve team thanks to his vision, intensity in duels, and impressive one-on-one skills. Integrated into the first team since last season, Agbonifo made several appearances for Lens (8 matches, 1 goal). Given the competition within the squad, the club wants to provide him with a competitive environment to help him take the next step in his development.
By joining FC Basel, Jérémy Agbonifo is heading to a club renowned for developing young talent. Even though the Swiss outfit is currently undergoing a rebuilding phase, it still boasts a solid structure and strong European visibility. The loan, set for one season, includes a purchase option set at €4.5 million.
