Congolese fans descended on the Stade des Martyrs early Tuesday morning in Kinshasa. The electric atmosphere set the stage for a high-stakes showdown between DR Congo and Senegal at 4pm, part of Matchday 8 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Leopards are defending their top spot in Group B, holding a one-point lead over the Lions of Teranga. The 80,000-seat arena is sold out for this decisive clash, which feels like a final before the final. A tidal wave of fans surged toward the Congolese football temple as soon as the gates opened. The stadium’s surroundings turned into a vibrant spectacle of national colors, but also saw near-uncontrollable crowds.
The Lions of Teranga arrive in Kinshasa under the pressure of a must-win result. Second in the group with 15 points to DR Congo's 16, they need victory at all costs to reclaim first place—and secure direct qualification. In this African qualifying zone, only the group winner avoids the playoffs. With the stadium already full, fans are attempting to force their way into the Stade des Martyrs.
