Football League World's Coventry City fan pundit has reacted to the news that Jack Rudoni is set to sign a new contract at the CBS Arena

Coventry City's best business of what was a somewhat-quiet summer transfer window at the CBS Arena may just have been retaining the services of Jack Rudoni, with the playmaker's future having proved the subject of significant speculation following a spectacular debut campaign with the Sky Blues.
Rudoni joined Coventry just last summer in a reported £5 million deal from Huddersfield Town after the Terriers suffered relegation to League One, putting pen to paper on a four-year contract.
The former AFC Wimbledon starlet proved a divisive figure throughout his stay in West Yorkshire and while Huddersfield supporters were pleasantly surprised at the fee they were able to collect for Rudoni, Coventry have since proved it to be a bargain.
Rudoni was a driving force behind Coventry's surge towards the top-six under Frank Lampard after the controversial sacking of Mark Robins back in November, and the playmaker finished the campaign with 10 goals and 13 assists under his belt as the Sky Blues ultimately made it to the play-off semi-finals before falling to a dramatic defeat against Sunderland.
His performances, quite naturally, had not gone unnoticed and Premier League giants Newcastle United were linked with Rudoni throughout the summer, while Fulham and West Ham have both been freshly touted to make a move for the 24-year-old and, as revealed exclusively by Football League World last month, Coventry set a £15 million asking price for his signature amid interest from Southampton.
However, Coventry have managed to not only retain Rudoni, but also tie him down to a new contract in the West Midlands.
According to a recent report from talkSPORT, the attacking midfielder is on the verge of signing a new "bumper" deal, which currently remains undisclosed in length and comes after Coventry's star man conveyed his willingness to commit his future to the Sky Blues.
Football League World asked our Coventry fan pundit, Chris Deez, if he is delighted to learn of the news that Rudoni is poised to sign a contract extension with the club.
Naturally, Chris is "over the moon" and explained how he believes the deal will enable Coventry to collect "mega money" — namely between £20-£30 million — for Rudoni if they fail to achieve promotion to the Premier League this season.
"Absolutely over the moon that Rudoni is signing a new contract," Chris told FLW.
"I've not seen anything about the length of the contract, I would imagine it's no more than two years — maybe one year.
"No Coventry fan wants to see Rudoni leaving the club, but at least extending his contract by hopefully a couple of years will guarantee that we'll get really good money for him.
"£15 million was floating around when he was linked with the likes of Southampton. I'd like to think another full season with us, boosting his stats up a little bit more, we could maybe get upwards of £20 million for him if we don't go up.
"Obviously the preferred outcome would be that he takes us up to the Premier League, but at least if that doesn't happen, him signing that contract does help us going forward. We get mega money for him, £20-30 million, we've seen players in the Championship go for more than that so I don't see why we couldn't get that much, and then that builds half a new team for the following season.
"It's always great news when you keep your best players, your key assets, and if we're really going to push on the way we think we can, Frank Lampard thinks we can and Doug King thinks we can, then Rudoni is going to be incredibly important to that, he's going to be integral."
It has been an encouraging start to the 2025/26 Championship campaign for Coventry, who have been widely-tipped to compete for promotion and are following up on that expectation by hitting the ground running.
Coventry have become renowned for enduring slow starts but that's no longer the case under Lampard, and they are positioned sixth in the table after five matches ahead of Saturday's trip to rivals Leicester City in this term's first edition of the M69 Derby.
Lampard's side are one of just three unbeaten outfits in the Championship and while they would have liked to convert more draws into wins, having taken two wins from five, the foundations have been set for a successful campaign.
Coventry are also the division's top scorers by some distance, though seven of their 15 goals came in a stunning 7-1 home rout of QPR — in which Rudoni found the back of the net on two occasions along with setting up Brandon Thomas-Asante.
Rudoni has two goals and an assist under his stat-line thus far, and the consistent level of his performances should only carry on deeper into the campaign as Coventry look to go all the way this term.
