Real Betis have joined the chase for Sunderland striker Eliezer Mayenda, with the forward increasingly likely to move on this summer.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Andalusian club managed by Manuel Pellegrini have long tracked the 21-year-old. They finished fifth in La Liga last season and will play in the Champions League league phase.

Mayenda is seeking regular senior football, which currently looks unlikely at the Stadium of Light given Brian Brobbey’s outstanding recent form. Sunderland are understood to be respectful of his wishes and open to a departure if the terms are right.

With interest growing, Sunderland could make a major profit, both in cash and SCR terms, on the initial fee of just under one million paid to sign him from Sochaux in summer 2023. It is understood that performance clauses and a sell-on were included in that agreement.

Ligue 1 side Stade Rennais are considered strong admirers. Claims earlier in the week that FC Porto were close to a deal were pushed back in Portugal, though it is thought Sunderland are aware of interest from the Primeira Liga champions. The report adds that both clubs continue to push.

While a loan remains possible, Mayenda is thought to prefer a permanent move at this stage.
