In a recent report, Defensa Central mentioned that Real Madrid are eyeing a swap deal for Arsenal centre-back William Saliba this summer. It has been stated that Los Blancos are planning to use Rodrygo as a makeweight in a move to land the France international.

Saliba’s Impressive Form In English Football

Saliba had a solid campaign at the North London club recently as he was responsible for putting in a string of impressive displays at the heart of Mikel Arteta’s defence. The French talent made 51 appearances for the Gunners last season, finding the back of the net on two occasions in various competitions.

The 24-year-old was a solid presence when defending inside his half as he made 62 tackles, 25 blocks and 21 interceptions in Premier League football. He was even accurate with his ball distribution after completing 94.3% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via fbref.com).

Saliba is under contract at the Emirates Stadium until the summer of 2027. Thus, Real Madrid would have to make a convincing offer if they want to recruit him this off-season.

What Will Saliba Bring To Real Madrid?

Saliba is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to make some timely interceptions for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is proficient at playing his way out from inside his half.

Standing at 1.92m, the French talent can use his strong frame to win a few 50-50 aerial duels for his team. He has got a wealth of experience at the highest level and won’t take much time to settle into life at Real Madrid.

Saliba would bring more bite and steel to Los Blancos boss Xabi Alonso’s defence. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Madrid club next season.
