A statistic highlighting the excellence of La Liga giants Real Madrid on the defensive side of the ball this year has been unveiled.

The stat, provided by Opta, surrounds clean sheets in Europe’s top-5 leagues in 2024.

Real, for their part, managed shutouts on a hugely impressive 20 occasions in the league over the course of the calendar year.

This is more than were managed by any other side in the continent’s leading divisions.

2nd on the list, with 19 clean sheets, are Serie A champions Inter Milan, ahead of another Spanish outfit in Real Sociedad, and Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal (18).

Rounding out the top five are Italian heavyweights Juventus:
