Liverpool are firmly entering crisis territory over the contract of Ibrahima Konate.

The 26-year-old centre-back sees his terms expire at the end of the season - meaning he is firmly into the final stretch of his Anfield career.

Konate has been on Merseyside since 2021 - arriving from RB Leipzig in a £35m deal. Last season he grew to become one of the best centre-backs in the world alongside Virgil van Dijk as Arne Slot’s side won the Premier League title.

With his contract running down he was brought to the attention of Real Madrid - who are plotting major changes to their centre-back situation in the summer.

With David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger out of contract Los Blancos will have room in the squad - and the wage bill - for a new high-class defender.

Real Madrid re-ignite Konate interest

The Spanish capital side were reported to have cooled their interest in Konate amid some indifferent form earlier in the season. But now that the France international has got himself back on track Madrid are once again firmly on his trail.

It’s been reported that Konate would consider offers of £200k or more to renew with Liverpool but it’s looking less likely by the day that he will agree a new contract.

And now Defensa Central is claiming that Florentino Perez is ready to blow Liverpool out of the water with a mammoth signing-on fee for Konate - who will be eligible to join Madrid after June 30.

Madrid's £13m contract bonus for Konate

“Florentino Pérez is reportedly willing to pay the player around €15 million as a signing bonus,” the report reads.

“The defender has decided to leave Anfield.”

Liverpool have taken steps to add to their centre-back ranks - signing Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet in big-money deals.

Furthermore we could see a move for an established central defender with the likes of Malick Thiaw, Murillo and Fikayo Tomori also linked.

Richard Hughes either won’t - or cannot - meet Konate’s people in the middle for a contract renewal. And now Madrid are poised to take advantage with a welcome bonus worth a cool £13m.
