Real Madrid captain not for sale this summer; two other stars face uncertainty | OneFootball

Jose Mourinho has come to Real Madrid with a lot of transfer plans, and the club have already signed the likes of Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella.

The club continue to be linked with new signings this summer, and making so many additions to the squad could logically require a few sales as well.

Reinforcements in midfield could also mean a few departures, but Federico Valverde is not expected to be one of those on the chopping block.

According to AS, Real Madrid fully trust Valverde, who is expected to become captain next season.

Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga are the midfielders more likely to be considered sale candidates, not the Uruguayan.

That is a major statement from the club. The Uruguayan continues to be an important part of Real Madrid’s plans, and it makes no sense to entertain a sale.

Rather than treating Valverde as a player who could be sacrificed, Real Madrid appear to see him as one of the foundations of the next cycle.

Captaincy says everything

Valverde has already spoken about the meaning of wearing the captain’s armband, saying earlier this month that he never imagined being Real Madrid captain.

That emotion matters because his connection to the club has always felt deeper than just a contract. He plays like someone who understands the shirt.

Keeping him makes complete sense. Valverde gives the team legs, intensity, sacrifice, ball-carrying and tactical discipline.

He is not always the most glamorous player in the squad, but he is often the one who makes the whole structure work.

If Real Madrid want to become more aggressive, more compact and harder to beat, Valverde is exactly the kind of midfielder a coach would trust.

Tchouameni and Camavinga face uncertainty

That Tchouameni and Camavinga are mentioned as possible sale candidates does not mean either will definitely leave.

It just means that if an offer for either one of them were submitted, the club would consider it, unlike one for Valverde.

Both are excellent players, and selling either would be a serious sporting decision.

Tchouameni offers defensive balance and physical presence, while Camavinga brings energy, versatility and press resistance.

Financially and tactically, though, Mourinho will have to pick his battles, and it remains to be seen whether he decides to sell someone in the squad.

Real Madrid are entering a summer where big decisions will be made, but this one should be simple. Valverde stays, leads and becomes one of the faces of Mourinho’s new Los Blancos project.
