However, the Frenchman has not been able to escape controversy even with his national team. The latest issue surrounding him came after the Round of 16 match against Paraguay, which the Blues won by a single goal, a penalty converted by the Merengue forward.

Mbappe was the subject of a lot of fouls and kicks from the Paraguayans during the game, and there were also some verbal exchanges between him and some of his opponents. But the issue gained even greater spotlight after the match, when a senator from Paraguay, Celeste Amarilla, made some tweets, making racist and xenophobic attacks against the Real Madrid star.

In the backdrop of this episode, MARCA reports that the Merengue club has decided to back their player, and have issued an official statement to reject the comments made by the Paraguayan senator. Their statement went as follows:

“Real Madrid C. F. wishes to express its strongest rejection of the regrettable racist and xenophobic remarks made by Paraguayan senator Celeste Amarilla against our player Kylian Mbappé.

Our club firmly condemns such statements, which are unbecoming of a political representative, and expresses its full support for our player Kylian Mbappé, who serves as a role model for millions of people, especially children around the world.

After the senator’s comments, Kylian Mbappe himself had taken to social media to condemn her and highlight the racist nature of her comments. On her part, Celeste Amarilla doubled down on her comments by asking the Frenchman for an apology for what she perceived to be gender-based violence against her.

There is no doubt that the comments made by the politician were uncalled for, and every possible step should be taken to combat racist and xenophobic actions like this. Real Madrid have done their part by backing the Frenchman, and hopefully, the senator would admit her mistake and this matter would not affect Mbappe’s performances in the World Cup going forward.
