According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid are seriously considering whether Franco Mastantuono could follow a similar developmental path to Nico Paz, whose rapid rise at Como has not gone unnoticed in European football.

Mastantuono arrived at Real Madrid in the summer surrounded by enormous expectations.

At just 18, he was viewed as one of the brightest attacking prospects in South American football, a player capable of shaping the club’s future.

However, his transition to European football has proven more complex than initially anticipated.

His performances have been uneven, and rather than showcasing his full range, he has often appeared caught between adapting and expressing himself.

Criticism amid talent

That situation has inevitably led to criticism from sections of the fanbase, who expect immediate impact at a club where patience is a rare commodity.

Internally, however, the club’s view is far more measured. There is no doubt about Mastantuono’s talent. What worries decision-makers is the context surrounding him.

Limited minutes, constant scrutiny, and the immediate demand for results at Real Madrid do not always provide the ideal setting for an 18-year-old still learning the rhythm of elite European football.

The Nico Paz way

This is where the example of Nico becomes relevant. His move to Como has turned into a reference point inside the boardroom.

Away from the spotlight of the Bernabeu, Nico has found continuity, confidence, and the freedom to grow.

That experience has sparked a key question among Madrid’s hierarchy that if this model has worked so well once, why not apply it again?

Against that backdrop, the idea of Mastantuono following the same route is gaining strength.

A carefully planned loan, rather than a reactionary decision, is being viewed as a protective measure. For now, nothing is decided. But the comparison is no longer theoretical.
