For quite some time, Real Madrid has had its eyes set on Alphonso Davies, viewing him as a prime market opportunity to bolster their defense, especially with his contract expiring in June 2025.

Davies is seen as the ideal player to upgrade Real Madrid’s left-back unit, where both Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia have failed to deliver consistency.

Davies wants to stay at Bayern

However, despite Madrid’s long-term interest and even talks of a January move, it appears Davies has made his stance clear: he prefers to stay with Bayern Munich, reports Mundo Deportivo.

Citing reports from Germany, MD claims that Davies is on the verge of signing a new contract with Bayern, extending his stay until 2030.

This renewal will come with a significant salary increase, though exact figures remain undisclosed. The agreement is expected to be finalized this week, putting to rest any speculation of a move to Real Madrid or elsewhere.

For Real Madrid, this news is a setback in their plans to rejuvenate their defence and upgrade their ranks in the left-back position.

There should be no shortage of alternatives in the market, especially when it comes to signing a new left-back. However, whether or not Real Madrid will wait for another market opportunity to sign a star defender such as Davies remains to be seen.

Alvaro Carreras has emerged as a potential alternative for Los Blancos, but the club may have to fork out €18 million to sign the former Real Madrid youth player.
