David Alaba’s chapter at Real Madrid is moving steadily towards its conclusion, and the direction now appears set.
This is because transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that there has been no change in the situation surrounding the Austrian defender, with both parties still expected to go their separate ways in the summer of 2026.
At this stage, there has been no formal or official communication announcing a separation.
However, the signals are clear, as the Real Madrid board does not plan to renew Alaba’s contract, which expires in 2026, when the defender will be 33 years old.
After five seasons at the club, the internal view is that the time is right to close this cycle and begin preparing for a new defensive structure.
Alaba arrived in Madrid as a high-profile signing, bringing versatility, leadership, and vast experience from the elite level.
Over the years, he has played a key role both on the pitch and inside the dressing room, becoming one of the most respected figures in the squad.
However, football at the top level rarely stands still, as age, injuries, and the club’s long-term planning have all played a role in shaping this decision.

By choosing not to renew his deal, Real Madrid have effectively placed Alaba on the open market, allowing him to start considering his next move well in advance.
Interest, as expected, is already building. Alaba’s experience and winning mentality ensure that he will not be short of offers.
In particular, clubs from Saudi Arabia and Turkey have emerged as serious suitors.
Both markets have become increasingly aggressive in recent years, offering attractive sporting projects alongside strong financial packages.
Among those pushing hardest is Galatasaray. The Istanbul giants are very keen on securing Alaba’s signature and view him as a player who could instantly raise the level of their defence.
For now, Alaba continues to be part of the Real Madrid setup, but the path ahead is becoming clearer with each passing month.
